On October 9, 2020 it’s Rick Marei who made public he has bought the Aquastar brand (including old stock, vintage tools and even the old Aquastar patents) from Gaston and Marc Seinet, together with financial help of the Synchron Group. It is their goal to resurrect the Aquastar brand and bring it back to its former glory. Mr. Marei is a well known person in the watch business, as he helped reviving watch and strap brands like Doxa, Aquadive, ISOfrane and recently Tropic.
When Aquastar announced its revival in 2020, this was accompanied with a re-edition of the Aquastar Deepstar being a faithful recreation of one of the most influential dive watches of the 1960’s, with its typical oversized 30-minute counter. The case though, is slightly bigger than the original (40,5 mm versus 38 mm) and the manual wound Valjoux 23 movement is replaced by a modern automatic La Joux-Perret column wheel chronograph.
Left the original Aquastar Deepstar from the 1960’s, right the 2020 re-edition.
At this point I can only hope that following the Aquastar Deepstar there will also be a re-edition of the Regate…..
